Gastronomic Curiosity

I’m not sure where/how I got the desire to cook and bake. It’s certainly not genetic as my Mother would rather keep sweaters in her oven a la Carrie Bradshaw than dare try to make a meal. One time, in a rare moment where she tried to instantly acquire domestic skills, a childhood friend was left eating “hard” spaghetti. Not al dente, people. HARD. That is hardly her worst kitchen faux pas – the microwaved steak may take the cake there – but what she did not get in domestic goddess genes she certainly makes up for in business prowess and smarts.

Needless to say, I did not grow up around much cooking. Luckily, as is the case with most Armenian families, my grandmother and two aunts lived in the same house and took care of me when my Mom was at work. They can cook. Especially my Aunt Andy. She is probably the only reason I was fed anything that could be considered a meal growing up, although I still missed out.

Consider this: I am thirty-one years old and up until a friend forced it on me, I had never tried peanut butter and jelly.

Get the picture? Okay. Well, couple that lack of education in cooking with the worst hand-eye coordination on the planet and you get a very klutzy kitchen. Hence the name of the blog. I know, I know. So clever. 😉

This blog isn’t for people who make chutneys and aromatic cherry sauce. This is for people who like delicious, cheap(sometimes) and FAST food. I have a full-time job, I don’t have time to sit around all day ho-humming over recipes. I also work about an hour and a half away from my current home, so posting here is done when time is available (it rarely is).

I am still in the LEARNING process, but that’s what’s so fun. I didn’t know what a sifter was, or how to ‘cream’ ingredients. Side note: Don’t ever Google “how to cream”, there are some sick people out there. I also didn’t know the difference between scallions, shallots, green onions, red onions, and basically anything that looks stalk-like. It’s okay if you don’t know that sh*t either. We will figure it out together.

This blog is for me to post my successes in the kitchen, but also to post my disasters, fails, and to share all the new things I learn along the way. This blog is about HONESTY, not perfection.

Welcome to my klutzy kitchen. I’m sure glad you’re here! 🙂
